I'm looking to build my team with special neurons, but want to know what special ability neurons are best for which AIs? What I've been thinking:
GK - Ghost Striker/Winger - Electro Kicker - Tough/Angry/Electro Defender - Tough Midfielder - ??
Or should I just make everything Elite?

Gk elite/ghost/tough Striker ghost/elite/Eco/tough/electro Kicker angry/strech/electro/flex Defender tough/elite/strech/ghost/electro Mid tough/elite/strech/Eco/ghost/electro Utility tough/elite/strech Winger ghost/elite/Eco/tough
Elites are a gamble due to random 10-14 stats and the extra stats cost power making them the least power efficient bot If your elite doesn't average 12+/level. Consider replacing it Never get a turbo. Get a strech or angry instead 10 secs of effective bonus vs 120+ seconds from strech&angry

Do we know how much additional strength a Tough neuron has? Is it a fixed amount or a percentage based thing?

It doesn't have additional strength, it just cannot be stunned or hindered by anything, but it can be pushed by stronger bots. So even a brba max level angry with a ultimate cannot stun a level 1 tough, it'll just push it around, repulse is a pushing mechanic so that works on everything including ghosts

I play with GK -> Ghost Defender -> Tough Kickers(x2) -> Electro Striker -> Angry
I tried using Turbo (as Striker) and Strech (As striker and kickers) with no very good results

One concern I have swapping from normal bots to the specials is the jump in repair costs. Currently I have 15 normal bots and it costs be about 4000 credits a day to keep them healthy. If I switch to 15 special bots Im estimating it would increase to about 12,000 credits a day to keep them healthy. Is that a realistic worry?

yes normal bots keep a double advantage : begin whit high level from factory, cost less for repairing !
True that reparation is too expensive (that's why i stop the game, now i'm back with only Middle Way)
Don't worry too much about money, there is a simple way to get money : the yoyo way (Cobra who understand it the first i guess)
you lose many match with 1 or 2 or exhausted bots, and when you are very far from your usual NWL, you get back (with 80% motivation you have to go very far) and you will win many matchs and so get a lot of money, without more reparation to do !
When you lose, you don't lose money, that's the fail ^^

Elites on 80% lvl18+ costed me 13k per bot to repair to give you any idea. 115k for the whole team. xDD
However i never repair with credits but i use my boosters for that. Consuming a booster will heal the bots.
Also if you yoyo for credits then you dont understand the reason why people are doing yoyo because there is a complete different reason for that. People that yoyo make enough amount of matches, if you make enough amount of matches a day credits is a non issue!.
The real reason for yoyo is to XP the bots more effeciently because they are often on a Amplifier, if you can keep the AMP longer on 2.0 when winning matches you will XP a bot much more quicker and be able to level it up fast.
In the end the question is how many matches do you make, if you play for fun just a couple matches per day, then yes Health can be a big issue. If you make average matches then that will do and anyone that have high match rates is laughing at it because its a none issue.
Like Cobra, i can remember him more then half year ago i think he had 6mil credits on his account. I bet he doubled it by now, just to give you an idea.
